Popular telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) is switching from Vi 4G to 5G slowly and planned wise. Recently Vodafone Idea (Vi) begins its 5G trial services in Mumbai ahead of the Vi 5G launch. As per the report, several Mumbai based users of Vi have shared screenshots of 5G activation messages, in-app confirmation, as well as the 5G network icon enabled on their mobile devices.
This comes after the company’s Q3 2024-25 report highlighted that the company was planning to commercially launch vi 5G network in Mumbai. More than this, the report also highlighted the vi 5G launch in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Patna in April.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) Reportedly Launches Vi 5G Trial Services In Mumbai
According to the latest report Vodafone idea started conducting its 5G trial run in Mumbai. The users of the telecom operators shared their experiences in their social media handles about receiving 5G activation messages and getting network logo on their devices.
One user shared a screenshot of the 5G network icon and speed test of Vi’s under-trial service on the users device, and claimed that voice over new radio (VoNR) facility is not available now. VoNR technology allows users to place and receive calls over a 5G network. Following this the user also claimed to get more than 200Mbps download speed and over 20Mbps upload speed.

Another user from that region shared a new in-app page which shows currently where the vi 5G network is available. As per the screenshot, the 5G service is currently only available in Mumbai, and listed as “coming soon” in places like Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan.
In a separate post, the same user also shared the activation message by the telecom operator. The message allegedly stated, “Congrats! Vi 5G service is activated on your number. Enjoy Introductory Unlimited 5G data offer with Unlimited packs of Rs 299 or above.” Which shows Vi 5G plans with unlimited data offer.
Another user shared a post where the user claimed that during the reported trial phase, Vi is restricting a limited number of users to access vi 5G network. Other users reported the 5G network service offers 250Mbps while connected.
Till now, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has not made any official announcements regarding the 5G service rollout in India.
